General instructions for role plays

The instructions and the criteria in the activity below will be used by the assessor to determine whether the activity has been satisfactorily completed. Use these instructions and criteria to ensure you demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.

These role plays will be conducted in class (or via connected learning) with your Assessor. Role play participants can be yourself, other students, and the Assessor.The location will be a classroom or meeting room (or connected learning) that simulates an office meeting space.

Online students may be requested by their assessor to record and upload this role play - refer Video Recording Instructions for Role Play Assessments

You are required to answer any questions the assessor may ask, and you must demonstrate positive communication and non-verbal skills.

The information you present will be observed by your assessor. You must:

1.Present yourself in a professional manner.

2.Discuss the information and answer any questions.

Your responses will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit.

You should refer to the list of criteria in the Observation Checklist to understand what you need to demonstrate in this section of the assessment. This Checklist outlines the assessment criteria used to assess your performance.

Part 1: Role play

To complete this part of the assessment, you will participate in a role play with one of your class mates. Your assessor will observe you while you engage in a conversation with your class mate who will be playing the role of Sam, from Sam's Automotives, a client.During the role play you will be asked to assist Sam with one of the scenario options outlined below.

Prior to completing this part of your assessment, review the observation checklist of this assessment and ensure you understand the assessment criteria your assessor will be looking for during this role play.

Scenario

You are a bookkeeper at a firm that specialises in providing bookkeeping, accounting and taxation services, as well ad-hoc special projects.Your manager has asked you to assist one of the firm's clients, Sam's Automotive, with their MYOB.Sam has a number of areas he requires assistance with:

Option 1.

Sam has commenced selling bags of ice and would like to set up a new account to track the value of the sales.

Provide Sam with the details of how to create a new general ledger account called "Sales - Ice" and demonstrate using the supplied MYOB file.

Option 2.

One of Sam's Automotives suppliers have changed their bank and consequently their bank account details have also changed. Sam's Automotive pays this supplier by direct credit to their bank account.

Provide Sam with details of how to change the bank account details for this supplier in MYOB and demonstrate using the supplied MYOB file.

Option 3.

Sam has a new customer called Big Wheel Trucking.Sam needs to create a new customer card.

Provide Sam with details of how to add a new customer in MYOB and demonstrate using the supplied MYOB file.

Option 4.

Sam's Automotive's is moving business premises and needs to update the address within MYOB to ensure it is displayed correctly on all MYOB generated reports.

Provide Sam with details of how change his business address in MYOB and demonstrate using the supplied MYOB file.

Instructions for students:

A classmate will play the part of Sam. Engage Sam in a conversation and provide Sam with instruction on how to undertake the task in the scenario you have been allocated.
