Seneca GOALS OF ASSIGNMENT INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS LAW TORT LAW ASSIGNMENT - 10% Upon completion of this Tort Law Assignment, you should be able to: . Identify potential hazards (aka a potential tort) Explain why it is a potential hazard Identify who is at risk because of the potential hazard, and how they are at risk (aka what damages they could suffer) Identify who is responsible for and how they can prevent the hazard Identify and apply the defences available to the at-fault party ASYNCHRONOUS VERSION For those completing the Tort Law Assignment asynchronously, you will submit your assignment by 2:20 on Friday March 22. Here is how it will work: . You will complete the assignment on your own You will identify and film two different types of hazards - one at your home and one at a store (i.e. grocery store or retail store) You cannot use the same type of hazard for both - they must be different You cannot use the examples we discussed in-class (i.e. tripping over a cord) For each hazard, in your video you will: o Identify your location (i.e. home and name of the store) o Identify the hazard (1 mark per hazard) Explain why you think it is a hazard (1 mark per hazard) o Identify who is at risk because of the hazard (cannot be an employee) and how (aka what damages they could suffer) (2 marks per hazard) o Identify who is legally responsible for the hazard (aka who is at fault) (1 mark per hazard) Explain how that person(s) is at fault and what they can do to prevent and/or minimize the risk of the hazard (4 marks per hazard) o Identify and explain at least one defence available to the at-fault person (2 marks per hazard) Video Requirements Your video should be 5-10 minutes in length 0 You can create two videos (one for each hazard) and submit both separately - no need to combine them - but the total length of your videos should be 5-10 minutes in length PROFESSOR GAJANI SRIRAGAVAN Page 1 of 2 WINTER 2024 Seneca INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS LAW When you film the hazard do not demonstrate why it's a hazard (aka don't risk getting hurt!!) instead use words to explain why it is a hazard and how a person could get hurt . You must go to both locations yourself and film yourself and the hazard Your face and voice must be shown in the videos at both locations You cannot use a video you find online You cannot have someone else film the hazard for you If it appears to me that you did not attend at the locations to film the hazard you will receive zero for the whole assignment Post your videos to YouTube, make the public or unlisted (so I can watch them) and submit the links to the Learn@Seneca Submissions folder Tips for Success When you arrive at the store you chose, put your legal hats on - think about how could someone get hurt, what could go wrong and how Before you film the hazard, figure out the answers to all the questions, then film the hazard and your answers Film the first hazard and the answer the questions. Then film the second hazard and answer the questions
