Simulation 3: Low Pass Filter
A low pass filter consists of a resistor and a capacitor in series, across which an AC input signal is applied. A load, comprising of a 1M resistor is applied at the centre tap between the R and C components, across the capacitor. Two sets of filter component values need to be evaluated:
i. Resistor -1k, Capacitor -200 nF
ii. Resistor -1000 ohm, Capacitor -800 nF
a) Create the two circuits mentioned, separately on SIMetrix and copy/paste them into your answer sheet. [10]
b) Simulate the two circuits with a 20VpAC sinusoidal signal, sweeping the input frequency from 20 Hz to 1.5 kHz . Provide a snapshot of the output voltage vs input frequency waveforms. [10]
c) What difference do you notice between the two circuits? Discuss. What is the implication of this finding? [5]
