Solution Overview and Solution Design for an Online Book Store

Assume you are hired as the solution architect for an upcoming online bookstore called Books for You Inc. (BFY). With your knowledge of the CSVLOD model of EA architecture, you are tasked with creating the solution overview and solution design artifacts. The textbook in chapters 13 and 14 describes these artifacts in detail. You are welcome to use the examples shown in that chapter to create the necessary artifacts for the following scenario.

Online Order Processing Portal:

BFY maintains an online storefront to get customer orders. Customers can visit the BFY portal either directly or through other websites having a partnership with BFY. All the customers are required to create an account before placing an order. Customers usually pay using credit/debit cards. BFY also allows for payment through Google Pay, PayPal, etc.

Customers are given different shipping options, and the charges and the delivery time will vary accordingly. Likewise, sales taxes vary according to the location of the customer. Sales tax is calculated using a third-party service that provides real-time tax rates and calculations associated with sales orders. Since the market is highly competitive, BFY has exclusive partnerships with many major web portals. When BFY gets a customer order through a partners reference, BFY gives a commission to it. These portals help BFY to get more orders.

BFY stocks an impressive collection of book titles. BFY buys books directly from publishers. BFYs order processing portal is integrated with the inventory management system. Whenever the quantity of books in stock goes down to reorder quantity, an order is placed with the publisher.

Requirements for the assignment:

Create a Solution Overview (you can use the ordinary overview on page 238 as the basis for your work).

Create a Solution Design (either application or infrastructure designs or both, as discussed on page 253).
