On 7 June Ibrahim posts a letter to the address in the advertisement in which he states the following: 'I have always wanted a Mercedes and I will be happy to give you OMR 40,000 for the car. Please telephone me on 12 June between 6 pm and 7pm to let me know whether this is enough, failing which, I will assume that you've agreed to sell the vehicle to me.' Ghassani receives the letter on 9 June and writes the following entry in his diary: 12 June-Ring Ibrahim at 6 pm to agree the sale of car.' Ghassani forgets to make the telephone call. On 13 June, Ibrahim meets an acquaintance of Ghassani's who says that Ghassani has decided to sell the car to Ibrahim. In the meantime, Ghassani has received a higher offer of OMR 45,000 from Laith and writes a letter to Ibrahim advising him that he has a better offer for the car.
