"Structural components of conflict include available resources, decision making procedures, time constraints, legal requirements, communication mechanisms and physical settings" (Mayer, 2012). Structural conflicts are those that arise from red tape issues such as company policy or the actual law. It can be an issue of your personal beliefs versus your job requirements. For example: I was watching a medical drama recently, and one of the issues presented in the episode was that of abortion. One character, a medical student was assigned to a case where the patient wanted to get an abortion, however, due to her personal religious beliefs, she asked to be removed from the case. Her superior denied her request. You get the gist. Cultural conflict stems from that which is ingrained in us. This one is tough because we all have unconscious bias. We are all from different backgrounds -- be it religious, the way we were raised or the region we are from. It influences the way we deal with situations that arises and our preconceived notions going into various situations. The way I communicate, may differ from the way my Asian or even my American co-workers communicate. Our culture dictates so much of our personality, and we may not be aware of it until someone points it out.

Do you agree wtih the writer that these issues mentioned by the writer can cause conflict at work? Why or why not? What other information has the writer left out if any?
