dra Tuesday ACADEMIC INTEGRITY The video clip "What is so important about Academic Integrity is about what a certain group of people perceive of academic integrity. Every individual has their own opinion and perception about what it means to have academic integrity and its importance. This video clip shows why it is important to have academic integrity and how it can change society. Having academic integrity, according to the video, means to have beliefs, values and principles and act upon these. It also means to think about others who live in the same community as you do and dedicating yourself for the best outcome of this community. After watching this video, I could understand why academic integrity is so important and why everyone should be aware of it and practice it. The first critical issue of the video is that for someone to construct knowledge, they need to have honesty and integrity. If knowledge is not built, then no cure for diseases will be found, strong bridges during earthquakes or excellent professionals will exist. There will be no genuine learning and growing without academic integrity, students will be left without knowledge to make good decisions. As one of the participants in the video mentioned, would you like to go to a doctor that cheated his way through medical school? This represents how important academic integrity is and how it defines the future of students, and how it could even define the life of other people. Nobody would want to go to a doctor that cheated his/her way through medical school, so it is not fair to others If we cheat our way through any other course in school. So, Integrity is fundamental for everything in an academy. The second critical issue is that without principles and values there is no academic integrity. For someone to decide what is right or wrong they need to have principles and values, and by knowing the right deckion they will have academic integrity. For example, if a student knows that cheating on a paper is wrong, he/she will have academic integrity because his/her values can tell they have academic integrity. All of our actions are based upon our values and they need to be fair, so we can reach integrity. Everyone should have the responsibility for what they do, know what they are doing and ask themselves: "Do I have academic integrity by doing this?" If everyone in an institution has this same thought there will be no issues about integrity among the community, The third critical issue is that academic integrity is key to building a good relationship among a community. It is about having trust in one another and knowing that the community is part of one single body and everyone plays on the same team. For example. In a university, a student should be able to leave their desk or workspace without having to worry about being stolen, by trusting that other students will have academic Integrity. I have a personal experience that relates to this. Once, I left my workspace to go to the restroom and when I was back my headphones were stolen. Because of this ane student, I lost my entire day trying to report it to the police. It is important for all members of the community to have academic integrity
