Suppose that you want to answer this research question: Do students learn as much when they learn remotely as they do in face-to-face classes?

Before you start writing, refine the research question to make it one that you can address more easily.

Define the population of interest (What type of students? In what geographic location? Taking what kind of class?).

Think about how you will judge how much students learn.

In your write up, describe how you would design a study including each of the following:

• Your refined research question.
• Whether you would use an observational study or an experiment and how you'd execute this design.
• How you would select a sample (must be practical).
• What variables you would record.
• What parameters you will estimate.
• What hypotheses you will test.
• The strengths of your proposed design.
• The limitations of your proposed design.
