RATIONALE back to top This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s: be able to differentiate between a range of project life cycle models and their appropriate application. be able to identify and reflect on the key elements of the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) framework, including project stakeholders, communication management, the project management knowledge areas, common tools and techniques, and project success factors. Background Globex has been marketing farming equipment through their authorized dealers (Clients) since 2013. It has a number sales departments and warehouses located in four regional areas in NSW: Albury, Wagga Wagga, Orange and Griffith. Currently the sales departments receive orders of equipment from the clients via phone and email. Orders are then recorded using pre-designed hard copy forms or spreadsheets after checking the availability of requested equipment. The sales department also arranges a delivery schedule/shipment to the client after checking their previous sales, outstanding bills etc. Currently all the activities are done manually. To improve the efficiency and accuracy of the existing manual systems, Globex has decided to invest in the development of an Online Sales Management System (OSMS). As such, based on their long-standing relationship, Globex has contracted Virtucon to develop the required system. Project Description Globex is a long-standing client of Virtucon. Therefore, Globex has contracted Vitucon to project manage the development of the new online sales management system. An Online Sales Management System (OSMS) will replace current manual systems. Many clients provide orders by calling or emailing the sales personnel, who record orders in a spreadsheet and accept credit card payments or cheques. This current process is unsustainable, open to error, and double handling of information. Therefore, the decision has been made to invest in an online order system, so that clients can order and pay for equipment online. The proposed system should enable clients to make orders and payments from any online platform and mobile device through the OSMS. Client details, equipment details, payments, and a range of reports should be generated by the system. Clients should still have the option to call the sales personnel and place an order for equipment over the phone if the need arises. It is expected, however, that the ability of managing the sales order will significantly reduce error and administration and involvement of the sales manager/personnel. Globex has decided to automate the following information services: Equipment stock reserved information Daily/Weekly/Monthly delivery information Order backlog information Sales Order Information based on order number and date Monthly product sales information Monthly sales information based on sales personnel. Globex has also identified a number of reports should be generated, which includes, but is not limited to: Maintain the details of Sales by Warehouse/Region Details of Warehouse i.e. Nos, Region, Address List of orders which have not been Delivered List of payment paid or pending to the clients Profit calculation by date/month Track Shipment of an Order
