Question: TECHNICAL DATA PROCEDURE 4 . 1 . SET UP Position the empty tank on the hydraulic bench Adjust the screwed feet until the base is

TECHNICAL DATA
PROCEDURE
4.1. SET UP
Position the empty tank on the hydraulic bench
Adjust the screwed feet until the base is horizontal
Ensure the drain valve is closed
4.2. READINGS
4.2.1 Balance the horizontal mast to be horizontally (180).
4.2.2 Attach a mass hanger of 50 g to the horizontal mast, this
will take your horizontal mast off balance.
4.2.3 Add water to the reservoir box until the quadrant reaches
the balance position indicated by the level mark on the
balance arm. The quadrant now is partially submerged.
4.2.4 Read the depth of immersion from the scale on the face of
the quadrant.
4.2.5 Repeat by adding more weights to the hanger with the
increment of 50 g , each time read the depth of immersion
from the scale.
4.2.6 Continue until height of the quadrant is completely
submerged.
EXPERIMENTAL DATA
CALCULATIONS
6.1 Calculate the hydrostatic force (thrust) exerted on the quadrant.
6.2 Determine the experimental depth of centre of pressure.
6.3 Determine the theoretical depth of centre of pressure.
6.4 Comment on the variation of thrust with depth.
6.5 Comment on the relationship between the depth of the centre of
pressure and the depth of immersion.
