The primary purpose of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award $($MBNQA$)$ is to motivate U$.$S$.$ business owners$/$operators to improve their QMS and continuously strive for excellence. According to Evans & Lindsay $(2020),$ "Workforce refers to everyone who is actively involved in accomplishing the work of an organization and encompasses both paid employees and volunteers." It is interesting to note that one of the questions asked in the Baldrige framework of performance excellence is: How do you build an effective and supportive workforce environment? Gibson $(2019)$ stated, "Engagement is the extent to which all staff is emotionally and intellectually committed to accomplishing our mission, vision, and priorities and is a much higher bar to reach than employee satisfaction." Companies serious about performance excellence need to view the workers as internal customers, and employee satisfaction and worker engagement are critical elements in improving quality within an organization.
