The BART and AC transit (ACT) strikes would cause traffic nightmares. The following capacities are in 1,000's of commuters per day, and you are to determine the commuter flow from around the bay area into San Francisco (SF). All passengers start from home and there are an unlimited number of potential commuters. Freeway capacities are as follows: (180) 200, (1580) 150, (H24) 50, (H880) 200, (H101) 100, (1280) 120. After getting on a Freeway, commuters from any highway can take BART or ACT or continue by highway through merges and bridges to SF. Overall, BART and ACT can accommodate ABC and BCD commuters respectively. MERGES and BRIDGES: 180 and 1580 must go over the Bay Bridge which has a capacity of 250. H101 must go over the Golden Gate Bridge which has a capacity of 92, and then H101 and 1280 must merge which has a capacity of 250. Also, 180 and H24 and 1880 must merge with a capacity of 300. a) Draw a the network diagram of the transportation system showing capacities. b) What is the current maximum flow into San Francisco?
