The Operations Management & Information Systems (OMIS) department and Entrepreneurship department of the Business School are contemplating whether they should pool the services of their respective administrators. At present, each department has one administrator. Each administrator can complete on average 25 jobs per day (1 day = 8 working hours). The OMIS department requires an average of 20 jobs to be completed each day, and the Entrepreneurship department requires that an average of 18 jobs are completed each day. You can assume that arrivals of jobs are Poisson distributed and that the service times to complete a job are exponentially distributed. Jobs are processed in FIFO order. Using the spreadsheet "queuing_models.xls" available on the module's Moodle page, evaluate using appropriate metrics the performance of the following two systems: (i) The system where each administrator only carries out jobs from their own department; (ii) (ii) A pooled arrangement in which each administrator can carry out jobs for either department. Clearly note all your assumptions, characteristics of the queuing models used and don't forget to include the necessary dimensions for the metrics that you report. Provide also relevant screenshots of the "queuing_models.xls" spreadsheet.
