The Organizational Control Process The control processwhether at the input, conversion, or output stagecan be broken down into four steps: $(1)$ establishing standards of performance, and then $(2)$ measuring, $(3)$ comparing, and $(4)$ evaluating actual performance. Control systems are intended to help managers achieve the four basic building blocks of competitive advantage: $(1)$ superior efficiency, $(2)$ quality, $(3)$ responsiveness to customers, and $(4)$ innovation. Controlling is the process whereby managers monitor and regulate how efficiently and effectively an organization and its members are performing the activities necessary to achieve organizational goals.
