The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a formal multi-stage process through which information systems are implemented. It consists of five (5) phases, i.e. Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation and Maintenance. The SDLC focuses on activities across all phases of the development project. However, a key aspect is the needs analysis phase. Needs analysis is a process of gathering, prioritising and documenting an organisations human resource information requirements methodically and it will serve as a necessary input for the subsequent design and implementation of an HRIS.

Question 1 (25 Marks) Needs Analysis is further broken down into various stages. Discuss stage 1 and stage 2 of the Needs Analysis Phase.

Question 2 (20 Marks) The third stage of the Needs Analysis is the Exploration stage. During this stage the needs analysis process builds on the analysis from the observation stage and involves additional and accurate data regarding the HR process. Explain the various ways of collecting data in this stage.

Question 3 (20 Marks) There are four (4) administrative approaches where each has opened paths to efficiency and effectiveness, improved service and cost controls, possibilities unimagined by HR professionals. Explain these FOUR (4) approaches as well as the advantages and disadvantages.

Question 4 (35 Marks) Recruitment is defined as the ability to identify, attract and hire the most suitable, qualified individual for the job. Many organisations over the past decade have expanded and moved into online recruitment. Organisations have begun to utilise the web as a way to further attract candidates to their companies. Online recruitment brings many win-win situations to an organisation as well as the job applicant.
