There are multiple ways to get employees engaged and keep them engaged

Keep them very focused on their specific task/role in the company rather than communicating too much of the "big picture" or strategy of the company, which may confuse them/distract them.

Help them understand where their job fits in the big picture and how they contribute to the success of the company, even if their role is clerical/administrative.

Try to minimize the challenges that the company faces and focus on positive news.
