There are some difference between rationalism and empiricism to gain knowledge. They are direct opposite to each other. Rationalist believe that they acquire knowledge without experience via the use of the reason.

There are three ways to acquire the knowledge in rationalism. Such as:

1. Innate ideas, which we have ideas before we are born. such as : personality

2. Reason , that is main source of knowledge using logic to approach the conclusion and truth

3. Deduction, which is to prove something with certainty and relies on formulas or principles to find answer

Moreover Rationalists believe that five senses which can give opinions

Empiricists are contrast with rationalist. They believe that knowledge comes from only experience and observation. Whereas in empiricism, knowledge is gained in following ways. Empiricists believe that:

1. Sense perception that is main source of knowledge. Ideas are based on perception

2. Experience that is ultimate source all knowledge and concepts. Ideas are obtained through experience not through innate ideas

3. Induction, which is to know using our sense perception

Therefore Rationalists believe in intuition while empiricists do not believe it.

Combining empirical observation and rational contemplation would be the best route to acquire the knowledge.
