This assignment is inspired by Googles 20% Time which is a philosophy and policy that every Google employee spends 20% of their time (the equivalent of a full workday each week) working on ideas and projects that interest them and that they are passionate about. The 20% time policy has worked so well that it has been said that 50% of Googles projects have been created during this creative period including Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, and Google News. A similar concept has been applied in the education field and it is referred to as Genius Hour where students are given time to learn based on their interests, and make a product based on their learning (Juliani,2012).
The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to work on an inquiry- based project related to digital citizenship that you are interested in and passionate about. This assignment will allow you to choose what you are going to learn and what product you are going to create at the end to demonstrate your learning. The assignment will be divided into two parts, in Part 1 you will choose a topic and develop a proposal and pitch for your digital citizenship project. In Part 2 you will research, design, and implement a product/solution that demonstrates your learning and will deliver a short TED-style presentation that showcases your project. You will also share your ongoing progress and write a final reflection on the project.
What are the Assignment Requirements?
For Part 2 of the assignment, you will:
1. Research/Learn Create an Annotated Bibliography
In this phase, you will research the driving/essential question that you identified in Part 1 and will engage in the learning that you outlined in your Digital Citizenship Project Proposal. As you research your driving/essential question you will locate at least 5 sources and will create an annotated bibliography that summarizes each resource and documents your research and learning. Your annotated bibliography should include the following for each of your ten sources:
Citation The citation should be in APA format (For those who may be unfamiliar with the APA format please refer to the following: APA Citation Style)
Summary You should summarize the source and answer the following questions: What is the main argument? What are the main points? What topics are covered? In short, what is the source about?
Evaluation You should evaluate the source and answer the following questions: Was it useful? Is it reliable? How does it compare to your other sources? How does the source fit into your research? Has it changed how you think about your topic?

2. Share your Ongoing Process/Progress
As you carryout out your digital citizenship project you will share your ongoing process and progress. There will be prompts in the weekly online modules that will encourage you to reflect on your process/progress and share what you have learned, any challenges you have encountered, next steps, etc. You are also encouraged to comment on your peers posts with advice, questions, and insights to help support their process and progress.
3. Create your Product
After you have researched and learned about your driving/essential question, you will create or make your product to demonstrate your learning as outlined in your Digital Citizenship Project Proposal. You will submit a copy of your product which can be in a variety of different formats (i.e. digital file, link, image, etc.) depending on the type of product you create.
4. Present your Project
At this stage in the project, you will design and prepare a short TED-style talk. This presentation can be designed using PowerPoint or Google Slides. You will be presenting in either Week 13 or 14. A sign-up sheet for these days will be circulated prior to the presentation dates.
Your presentation should be approximately 5-7 minutes in length and should have a clear opening that introduces your topic and research question, a middle that delves into your research and explains for the audience the importance of your topic, and a conclusion which nicely ties up the presentation.
Try to avoid going over 7 minutes, as many students will be presenting, so it will be important to be mindful of timing when you are planning your presentation.

Note: if your product is a presentation, it will be necessary to create a power point or slide presentation that can be submitted with the other documents.
