Becoming a supervisor marks a big change in a person's work life. Many supervisors are promoted from the ranks of nonsupervisory workers. This means they are no longer just "one of the gang." They are now part of management. Nonsupervisory workers look to them for guidance, support, fairness, and loyalty. These same subordinates may also now blame the new supervisor for problems on the job, disagreements with other workers, and any and all problems. Being a supervisor is the first step to greater responsibility and authority within the organization.
