DOES BEHAVIOR ALWAYS FOLLOW FROM ATTITUDES? - Yes the attitude people hold determine what they do, but some researchers suggested that attitude follow behavior (car example). However, a person who experience internal inconsistency tends to become psychologically uncomfortable. - Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attifudes, beliefs or behaviors. This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alternation in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance. - For example when people smoke (behaviors) and they know that smoking causes cancer (cognition) they are in state of cognitive dissonance
