This week$$s discussion focuses on$$peasant$$protest$.$ There are numerous types of protest as you will learn in the next few weeks from your text, so let me clearly define what I am looking for and what is meant by $$peasant$$ protest.$$

If you look at the dictionary definition of peasants and also the historical use of the term, you will find that they are defined as $$a$$member$$of$$a$$class$$of$$persons$,$as$$in$$Europe$,$Asia$,$and$$Latin$$America$,$who$$are$$ small farmers$$or$$farm laborers$$of$$low$$social$$rank$.($dictionary$.$com$).$ For our purposes we will include those who primarily live from the products of the land and include people such as the Sami $($reindeer herders$),$ Inuit and similar groups in not only Europe, Asia and Latin America, but in Africa as well.$$ Remember, one thing to look for is the confiscation of land by others which may force the peasant to work for the new landowner usually at low wages that decrease the standard of living.

Remember, as indicated, the purpose of peasant protest is not to overthrow the system in which they live, but to find a means to survive.$$ Your text talks about many of the methods used to work the system to allow survival and gives many examples.$$

For this discussion, identify an example of peasant protest in the country that you are researching.$$ Explain why the protest occurred $($the cause$)$ and its relationship to globalization, what types of obstacles did the peasant protestors face and what methods did the protestors use.$$ Was the protest successful?$$ Why or why not?
