In the first couple of days that Denise starts working at Food Master, Thomas asks her to prepare a mock presentation about one of Food Masters key products.
Denise enters the boardroom to find Thomas there along with Jimmy, the Director of People and Organizational Development and another salesperson. Immediately, she starts talking about the product and its features. In her state of nervousness, she neglects to introduce herself and her role in the company and moves straight into the presentation. She starts talking about the products features, but these can be difficult to understand without an actual product to show the audience. Alternatively, she could have distributed a brochure to support her presentation. Her presentation is fast-paced and, at times, difficult to follow.
Thomas notes that Denise does not maintain eye contact, and for the most part stares up or down. When somebody asks questions, Denise interrupts the speaker and provides incomplete answers. After finishing the presentation, she does not ask any questions. Thomas realizes that Denise is in desperate need of training and lacks important interpersonal skills.
