Two emerging business ethics problems that are discussed in Chapter 3 are Misuse of Company Time and Resources and Conflicts of Interest. Time theft occurs when an employee conducts personal business on company time or doesnt report time off, such as arriving late, leaving early or not recording vacation or sick days. Conflicts of Interest occur when an employee furthers their own interest, not that of the company. These have emerged in large part because of the increasing percentage of office workers and the availability of computers, internet and smart phones. Keeping these emerging problems in mind, please discuss the following.

Your supervisor asks you, as a favor to her, to perform a task that is not work related, but is to be completed on company time. She will benefit from your labor, but the firm for which you both work will not.

1. Discuss whether it's ethical for you to perform this task.
2. Similarly, discuss whether you should report to the firm her use of your work time for her personal business?
3. If you did not report the request which ethical problem is involved?
4. If you perform the task, which of the emerging business ethics problems did you engage in?
5. Which ethical violation did your supervisor engage in, and how are they different?
