Upon graduating high school, Max entered the workforce. Even though he wanted to attend. college, his family could not afford it, and he did not have the support needed to research other financial aid options. With only a high school diploma, his job searches yielded customer service positions in retail and fast food establishments. After working retail for several years, Max obtained a position at a well-known utility company. The company paid well, offered incentives and bonuses as well as profit sharing. Since Max's family faced financial hardship when growing up, he values an income that allows for financial security to break the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck in which he was accustomed. After a few months working in the call center, he became uneasy about his new position. Even though it paid well, his work schedule was extremely structured. He worked the same schedule week after week. His breaks and lunches were scheduled at the same time. During inclement weather, he was required to sleep in the hub and could not eat or take a break until he was told to do so by his supervisor. He was even told what to say to customers via cue cards. Everything was very structured! As he became increasingly dissatisfied with his job, he decided to obtain a bachelor's degree. To save money, he enrolled at Wake Tech to complete his general education courses before transferring to university. When taking Focus2's Work Interest assessment, his Holland Code results were Artistic, Social, and Investigative. The values he selected were Helping Others, Income, and Independence. The skills he wants to utilize in his career are Listening, Teaching, and Helping others. After reviewing the list of careers that returned based on his results, he decided to learn more about becoming a counseling psychologist. 1) What aspects of his results align with his previous work experience in customer service? What aspects indicate it not being a good fit and why? 2) What aspects of his results align with becoming a counseling psychologist? Are there any aspects that don't support this as a career choice?
