Question: USE THE FOLLOWING DATA TO ANSWER QUESTION After analyzing the data in the 2021-22 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) for Cardinal Elementary School, the campus

USE THE FOLLOWING DATA TO ANSWER QUESTION

After analyzing the data in the 2021-22 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) for Cardinal Elementary School, the campus has proven evidence that they are falling behind in content. It is apparent that the campus needs improvement in Math. Based on the overall mathematics performance for the campus in 2021, 69 % of the students passed the Math STAAR test with approaches, while 66 % of the state did.In 2022, the campus had 65 % of the student pass the Math STAAR test with approaches, while 72 % of the state did.The district's approaches passing level decreased from 2021 to 2022. Based on the overall mathematics performance for the campus in 2021, 38 % of the students passed the Math STAAR test with meets, while 37 % of the state did. In 2022, the campus had 36 % pass the Math STAAR test with meets, while 42 % of the state did. The campus beat the state average the year 2021, but they fell below state average the next year. Finally, the overall mathematics performance for the campus in 2021, 23 % of the students passed the Math STAAR test with masters, while 18 % of the state did. In 2022, the campus had 14 % of the students pass the Math STAAR test with masters, while 20 % of the state did.The campus average was greater than state average in 2021, but in 2022 the campus passing rate fell below the state average. This data provides evidence that the campus needs to incorporate a new plan to prepare for the Math STAAR test.

Within further analysis into the weaknesses in the math program, the student demographics are examined. Student that were identified as economically disadvantaged decreased all levels of the passing rate for the Math STAAR test between the years of 2021 and 2022. The students that identified as special education for 2021 and 2022 increased their passing rates for all of the passing rates for the Math STAAR test. The student that are English Language Learners (ESL) decreased all levels of the passing rate for the Math STAAR test between the years of 2021 and 2022. It is very significant to see that the socially disadvantaged and ESL students were the groups that decreased in their performance on the Math STAAR test.Cardinal Elementary School's largest population is Hispanic and these students fall heavily in those 2 categories.

After looking at the specific grade levels that were administered the Math STAAR test at Cardinal Elementary School, it is noted that the grade levels each have their own issues involving the passing rates for the test. In 3rd grade, the students decreased their passing rates in the approaches score by 7 %. In 4th grade, the students decreased their passing rate in all 3 scoring areas. In 5th grade, the students decreased their passing rate in all 3 scoring areas. Between the 4th and 5th grade levels, the 5th grade students have the greater amount of percentages decrease between the 2021 and 2022 school years. The data indicates that the pattern of low performers are the students that are in 4th grade in 2021 and then in 5th grade in 2022.

Based on the STAAR data for Cardinal Elementary School for the 2021 and 2022 school years, it is indicated that the students are not preforming adequately on the Math STAAR test. This is proven be examining the 3 STAAR passing rates for the individual grade levels. Within the grade levels, it is evident that 5th grade Math is the grade level that is not adequately preparing their students for the STAAR Math test. Within the 5th grade, it is apparent that the American American students are the race that is preforming the lowest. This can also contribute to the low passing rate for socially disadvantaged students. It is also apparent that the students that are in 4th grade in 2021 and 5th grade in 2022 are a low preforming group that decreased their passing rates between the 2021 and 2022 school years.

As an example of a data meeting, I am working with my team and we have been discussing past identifications that we have discovered from the data included in the 2021-2022 TAPR report for our school Cardinal Elementary. We discovered from the report that the 4th grade Math students have decreased their passing rate from 2021to 2022 for STAAR and end-of-course exams. The teachers have received a copy of an interim assessment from Ms. Jones's 4th-grade Math class. As the data meeting began, I asked my team what key ideas from the assessment did the students seem to struggle with. The teachers agreed that the students in Ms. Jones's class struggled with the standards in 4.2 involving fractions. With further investigation into the data, the team determined that the student's greatest struggle involved fractions on a number line, ordering fractions, and equivalent fractions. We then discussed as a team these three concepts involving fractions and also looked at the test questions to determine if the questions were written clearly. As the principal, I lead the team in diving into the data and determining a skill the data team agrees upon for reteaching and professional development for the 4th-grade Math teachers. The team decided that ordering fractions is the math skill that will be remediated. The team selected this concept because the students missed more than one question that the skills addressed. The team also discussed and decided that the teachers would reteach this concept to the students using the modeling method. The 4th-grade teachers will also be allowed to attend professional development to help them prepare for the reteaching.

QUESTION

Create a Professional Development Plan for an academic year using the table below. The Plan will include the following components.

  1. Focus for Professional Development: You will identify a specific high-leverage topic for improvement for professional development.
  2. Gaps in Instructional Practices: You will identify what teachers are missing in their current instructional practices that impact student learning.
  3. Objectives for Improved Instructional Practices: You will identify high-leverage, research-based instructional practices that will improve equitable student academic achievement.
  4. Follow-up:Develop a follow-up plan, consisting of a minimum of 5 steps, to ensure at least 90% implementation of the high-leverage, research-based instructional practices. Your steps must include strategies that address feedback, observation, and reflection.
