Using a case study of your choosing (from the course textbook, from your own experience within organizations, from a media text, or from a real-life scenario) to identify, define, and explain how at least three (3) sources of power in organizations function, giving some individuals power over others. The following are sources of power you might consider:

• formal authority
• control of scarce resources
• use of organizational structure, rules, and regulations
• control of decision processes
• control of knowledge and information
• control of boundaries
• ability to cope with uncertainty
• control of technology
• interpersonal alliances, networks, and control of "informal organization"
• control of counterorganizations
• symbolism and the management of meaning
• gender and the management of gender relationships
• structural factors that define the stage of action
• the power one already has
