Week 2: Quality Management and Performance Improvement This week's discussions will focus on clinical quality, utilization management, risk management, and how they can be leveraged to evaluate health information functions. After studying some important functions of quality management discussed this week, compare and contrast clinical quality assessment, utilization management, and risk management. In your analysis, make sure to address: 1. the definition or purpose of each function; 2. identify components involved in clinical quality, utilization management, and risk management; and 3. how an HIM professional can be involved in each function. Note: You will need to read the assigned pages in your textbooks and use your critical thinking skills in identifying the answers to the above requirements. Take a look at the examples provided, the data needed, and how the HIM professional can contribute to the process of data collection to support or manage these functions.
