Question:
What do you find interesting about my answer?
- Describe the page you chose and discuss how it differs and resembles today's sports pages.
- Choose a particular story on the page and discuss the writing of that article—is it interesting, in today's terms?
1) The article I chose is titled " NAVY TO PLAY MINNESOTA.: Basketball Teams Will Clash on Western Court". It was written on 1924. The article gives a brief description on what teams are playing, where and when. They don't go too much into detail about anything really. Unlike today. they don't focus on any star player on the team. They don't discuss what challenges will pose far as defense and offense. In my opinion, the only resemblance of today's sport pages that I see is highlighting specific holidays that the teams will miss in order to play and having a somewhat catchy title.
2) I think by todays standards and expectations of sports article, it wasn't the slightest bit of interesting. It felt more like an informative article ( just throwing facts of where, who and when), instead of entertaining. It didn't evoke any type of emotion. It didn't make me laugh, nor think just read. It makes me think of people like Stephen A Smith and other commentators who have literally transformed the way we look at sports. I highly doubt there was anybody like him, and others, around that time.
