SS 507 : 2015- Information and communications technology disaster recovery services SS 507 : 2015 B.1 General In addition to the stability of the external environment, good infrastructure and availability of skilled local manpower in the geographical region will contribute towards a favourable setting for ICT DR service providers to base and operate their recovery sites. Furthermore, the presence of other ICT DR service providers and their suppliers in the geographical region would create the critical mass for a vibrant local industry. The track record of key players is another indicator of the maturity and vibrancy of the local ICT DR industry. Depending on the local political environment and its possibilities, the availability of proactive support of the local authority would also play a crucial role in the growth and expansion of the ICT DR industry. Annex B (informative) Guidance on selection of recovery sites B.2 Infrastructure The external infrastructure of the geographical region where outsourced service providers locate their recovery sites will influence the extent and quality of the services that can be provided. In addition to accessibility, recovery operations from the recovery sites may be impacted if there are uncertainties, frequent fluctuations or disruptions in any of the following infrastructure components: a) telecommunications; b) power supply: c) land transportation; and, dependent on the particular local environment: d) air links and transportation; or sea links and transportation. B.3 Skilled manpower and support There should be a ready pool of skilled and experience ICT DR professionals available locally. The manpower pool should be capable of being expanded by the geographical region having: a) b) a high level of general worker skills such that they can be easily trained and equipped to take on ICT DR operational roles; and a comprehensive range of ICT DR education and training providers who can constantly retrain and upgrade expertise. B.4 Critical mass of vendors and suppliers There should be a critical mass and range of ICT DR vendors and their suppliers in the geographical region who can provide the necessary consultancy, equipment, hardware and software support and replacement at all times.
