Part of strategic management is the leaders role in implementation. In the end, leaders need to make sure things get done. But a worldly perspective can make it seem that the job has to be done at the expense of caring for people. In contrast, the biblical perspective makes it clear that caring for others is part of the very task itself. Strategically speaking, caring for people makes it easier to get the job done because when people feel cared for and supported, they are more likely to, in turn, support the goals of the company.
Learning to lead like Christ by serving others takes the power of the Holy Spirit. We cant lead and live this way apart from being changed radically by the power of God, no matter how good our intentions. We can take comfort knowing that the Good Shepherd will give us the strength to live and care for others. The first step is to acknowledge where we may have fallen short on a day-to-day basis. From there, learning to rest in Gods grace rather than trying to change ourselves in our own strength is the only way to achieve lasting victory over selfishness. This doesnt mean that we dont have actions we need to take to care for others but rather, that doing the right thing by human effort alone is not the right thing at all. It is legalism and perfectionism.
As you increase your leadership skills, how are you going to ensure your leadership is Christ-like?
