In reviewing Figure 2-1 on how laws are made, I would say on paper it looks like this is a good way to create laws. However, the reality of it is that it is not as clean and simple as this figure displays. Unfortunately, law making has a tendency to become a power struggle. As the bill is working its way through the process, its often-other business that gets in the way. Some representatives will negotiate their approval or "yes" vote of a bill in exchange for something unrelated to the bill in question. When laws are being passed or dying on the floor, it may not actually have anything to do with the bill in question but may be a response to something else. It's also common for representatives to vote along party lines regardless of the bill itself.

I also think that the voters should have more opportunities to have a say, especially when it comes to laws that may impact the House and Senate. For example, there's been talk about term limits for those representatives in the House and Senate, but is it appropriate for the House and Senate to be involved? Although the description in Figure 2-1 may be a good outline for law making, I don't think it should be the only way.
