  1. Write a comprehensive report discussing the positive and negative impacts of generative AI use in medicine today. This report has been commissioned by the Australian government and will be used to inform future policy and regulation of the medical industry. It is recommended your report focuses on the role Generative AI has on various impacts, such as economic (for example monetary costs and savings), social (for example user adoption and personal data issues), and patient outcomes. You are expected to use various sources of information (at least 10) in preparing the report. The report should be approximately 1500 words in length (not including your reference list).
  2. Recommend policies to the government to ensure Generative AI is implemented properly, given your research into the issue. Your recommendations should follow from the most important findings from your research report. Your recommendations should be approximately 500 words in length. Your manager expects you to use learnings from the global community and to use scholarly literature to inform your research report and recommendations. Your manager has provided you with the following resources (though you are also required to use more resources)

Description of the Task Use of Generative Al in medicine. Generative Al is a form of Artificial Intelligence that uses language models to provide textual responses to human text-based questions. It uses machine learning to study patterns of words from large resources of documents and files, such as data available on the internet and industry-specific reports and machine-generated data. The major difference between Generative Al and older Al machines (such as Predictive Al) is that Generative Al develops new content from the data it is trained on. How the data is analysed and processed though is the same for Al and Generative Al models. ChatGPT and Dalle-E are examples of Generative Al models that develop new content in the form of text and images respectively. Healthcare has been at the forefront of using technology to better patient outcomes. Recently, Al has been applied in medicine for many uses, for example, to look for abnormalities using imaging technology, for drug discovery by recommending effective compounds and new patient target groups and is used to run medical robots in surgery. While Al in medicine may have helped us to provide better healthcare, there are also dangers we should be aware of arising from the use of these systems. Your organisation is the peak medical body for advising the government on new initiatives in technology in healthcare. You are employed as a new project officer who has just joined a small team tasked with advising the government on the likely impacts of the widespread use of Generative Al in healthcare in Australia. The Australian government is eager to encourage the use of Al and believes the use of Generative Al has much potential as a mechanism for automating medical diagnosis. Generative Al can assist by processing and analysing large volumes of medical data, such as patient records, genetic data, medical imaging, discussion board notes and even individual doctors' notes to assist in patient diagnosis. The uptake of generative \\( \\mathrm{Al} \\) has been slow in this sector mainly due to \\( \\mathrm{Al} \\)-centric problems such as black-box, problems of bias, machine learning errors and the role of the human in decision-making using technology (that is whether Al should be used to augment or automate decisions). The government is keen to start research on the positive and negative consequences of using generative Al for medical diagnosis to inform proposed regulations and policies which should ensure the widespread use of Al technology is implemented carefully. Today you were told that the person tasked with writing the report and recommendations has unexpectedly left the organisation and is no longer available to advise you on the project. Your former team member did not start this project before they left. You have only 2 days to complete it before the deadline to write a comprehensive report (Task 1) and recommendations (Task 2) for the Australian government to adopt.|
