- What's the motivation? Why is this important?

- What's the empirical relationship that's being analyzed? What's the key independent variable (X)? What's the dependent variable (Y)?

- What other factors would need to be considered or controlled for that might affect the dependent variable?

- How would you analyze this relationship? What methodology would you use?

- What data would be required to empirically analyze this research question?

- What are your a priori expectations about this relationship? How would you be able to determine whether this is a causal relationship or mere correlation?

- How is it unique? What is different about this topic from what has already been done?
