Write the Project Description and Conclusion in the project below?
Executive Overview
Home Design Solutions (HDS) is company founded and owned by couple Emily and Joe Herold. The company began as a remodeling effort in May 2007, when Emily and Joes family and friends contracted them to upgrade their homes. Realizing that there was a great demand for this kind of service, they open their first store location in Phoenix, AZ. The company grew quickly, and a second location was opened in Scottsdale and a third in Tucson. In addition, two out of state locations were opened: Elite Home Renovations in Las Vegas, NV and IRB Home Supply in Albuquerque, NM. There is a total of 39 employees including Emily and Joe. HDS has over $14.5 million dollars in total gross revenue, operates a 30% gross margin, has $1,775,000 in salaries and benefits, and an overhead of about $75,000 per month for all locations.
Currently, HDSs system is operating with multiple databases because each site maintains their own and this requires them to gather the data and upload it to a master database in the Phoenix location. In addition, their out of state stores have been operating independently and they need them to be able to access the corporate database and hold monthly meetings with all the staff. A majority of their computers do not use the latest version of Windows and their electronic cash register is not directly connected to a computer, requiring more manual input. There is an overwhelming number of questions they receive over the phone every week about their services and products.
HDS needs a central, corporate database that keeps information on clients and inventory. Each location needs their own LAN and that is connected to the headquarters in Phoenix. Every laptop should be able to connect to the Phoenix system from anywhere in the service area. Additional software and hardware may be need to accommodate the growth of their client base. A website needs to be created.
Project Scope
Problem/Opportunity Statement
HDS has multiple locations; however, there is no effective central management of their database and network. The master database has to be tediously updated because each location has their own list of clients and separate product database. Their out of state stores have been working independently from their Arizona stores. Currently, most of HDSs computers are operating only on Windows 7. Every week, HDS receives an overwhelming amount of questions pertaining to their services and products over phone.
Project Objectives
HDS needs a central, corporate database located at their headquarters in Phoenix, AZ so that all their designers and other employees from their various locations can access the any needed information. All locations need to be able to access the corporate database and hold monthly meetings with all the staff. Each location needs a fully realized LAN that is connected to the Phoenix location. Their laptops need to be able to connect to the Phoenix location from anywhere in the service area, which extends from Holbrook to Lake Havasu. The system needs to be as secure as possible from threats to the network; it should protect critical information like on clients. HDS needs a website that details the company, their products and services, inventory, list of cabinets, sinks/faucets, lighting, and appliances. The system should not exceed a budget of $200K and any addition costs should be justified.
Project Description
The database will be able to rid the manual input Emily and Joe has to do for their database; in addition, provide a centralized resource for employees to check inventory and clients. The database should be easy to use and understand for employees. It will contain information on employees, customers, inventory, sales records, orders, current jobs, and jobs out for bid.
Project Proposal
System Justification
According to the analysis of the existing network infrastructure and architecture there will need to be a major overhaul with the devices and software. Firstly, all the computers being used by all employees will need to be upgraded to Windows 10 to comply with IT security standards initiated from Microsoft to receive the latest security updates. This can be performed for free via a link on the Microsoft support site. Next, will be replacing all the networking cables with CAT6, and updating all the switches, routers, and firewalls in the office with an estimated cost of $10,000 for the network devices and cabling hardware. The current rate for the consulting is broken down as follows, $115/hr for programmers, $125/hr for analysts, $100/hr for network technicians, and $110/hr for database designers. The estimated time for each as of now will be 40 hours and will be adjusted for actual time at the end.
