Bill Gates leadership style evidence is focused on four different styles: task-orientation, delegation, autocratic, and transactional/transformational. Task-oriented leadership can be defined as involves directive behavior focused on providing clarity and task focus. It addresses production-centered or task-related concerns of management. In Gates past, he has been known as a strict and hardcore boss. With this to balance, he often demanded- yet encouraged- creativity from all of his employees. He was known to often delegate teams and employees to present their ideas and would follow with multiple questions and fact checks. He began as a lonesome leader who had difficult times giving tasks and delegating people. This is how he portrayed his autocratic leadership style, as he wanted things done only his way. As his company grew, he had to come to the realization to give power in the hands of others, as he could not complete all things by himself. He is a man with a large amount of competency, skills, and knowledge. He has a vast amount of technical skills that superseded his interpersonal and relational skill set. In regards to being a transformational and transactional leader, he showed strong traits in both theories. His transformational evidence was more based upon his leadership ideas, his inspirational leadership, and intellectual stimulation. He was not a leader who was prominent on idealized influence and individualized concerns for others. His transactional evidence falls under contingent rewards and active management-by-exception. Nevertheless, he was not a passive or laissez faire leader as he was very detail oriented and wanted everything done by his employees the way he would.
