Writing Training Objectives. Your Objectives:Writing Training Objectives. Your Objectives:Writing Training Objectives.

Your Objectives: Establishing training objectives permits the student (employee), the instructor(teacher), and the supervisor(Employer) to know precisely what performance of a behavior is expected and to what degree it must be demonstrated.

Training objectives should provide a clear direction in the level of work the student will perform on the job. With preset objectives, the student can accurately determine when the intended level of job performance has been reached. The student (employee) working with the supervisor at work must select objectives in knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed by the student(employee) to succeed in the specific job area. Meaningful objectives are specific and focus on important aspects of the job. Objectives must be attainable within the predetermined time period yet challenging enough to encourage the student to stretch beyond their present level of performance.

Training objectives are observable, precise, and measurable statements of particular behaviors you need to exhibit on the job. Each objective must state specifically what you will accomplish and how.

To do this Training Objective, students must use the SMART technique for setting goals and be specific.

S is for Specific. A goal should state exactly what you want to accomplish and when you want to accomplish it. T is for Trackable and Time-bound. Performance standards, including a timeline, must be in place to enable frequent tracking of each goal. Are you making observable progress toward goal achievement? What will a good job look like? So first, you decide exactly what you want to achieveSand then determine how you are going to track or measure progress toward goal accomplishmentT. Once the S and T are in place, use the other three SMART criteriathe R, A, and Mto check if the goal is truly SMART. R is for Relevant. Is this goal important? Will it make a difference in your life, your job, or your company? A is for Attainable. A goal has to be reasonable. It's great to stretch yourself, but don't make a goal so difficult that it's unattainable or you will lose commitment. You must be able to achieve the goal within the given timeframe. M is for Motivating. For you to do your best work, a goal needs to challenge you to take a step out of your comfort zone and learn something new or perform at a higher standard than usual. A goal should not be the status-quo or what you should be doing anyway.
