You are employed by a small Electronics Engineering Development company. The company is competing for a tender for a government contract on an import-substitution project. Your section is dealing with the part of the project covering power supplies development, to run some other various circuitry (under development by other sections of the company). Part A - 5V DC Power supply @ 200mA [40 Marks] Your supervisor has passed on to you a basic simple 5V DC power supply design to verify and develop to a working prototype (specifications below and schematic in Fig.1). Your supervisor has told you that he "only scratched up some rough calcs to get the initial component values" shown in the circuit diagram provided. He suspects that the reservoir capacitor may be a bit small and so verification and some modifications may be necessary. Your supervisor has also requested that the modifications should focus on either converting the half-wave rectifier to a full-wave rectifier bridge, or resizing the reservoir capacitor value. Prototype testing should be done for the following output current loads : 50mA, 100mA and 200mA. The component costs of both of the modification options chosen are to be compared to conclude which is the best solution (cheapest!). The initial production run is to be for 1 000 units. [Jaycar prices were to be used to benchmark these as it will be the simplest approach at this time.] Your supervisor requires a short, 2 page report containing the following: Analysis calculations verifying initial circuit; Design calculations of designs/modifications; Full detailed circuit diagram of final chosen solution; Table of test results from building and testing the prototype final design; 6 Calculations of cost comparison analysis for possible solution component variations; and 5 A short video clip showing your prototype circuit under test. 8 (Marks : 40) 5V Power supply Specifications: Input AC voltage - Output DC voltage- Maximum Output current- Maximum Output Ripple Voltage- 7 8 6 220-240V 5.0V (tolerance -0.1V to +0.2V) 200mA 60mVpp 220-240Vac 12-14Vac AC Plug Pack D1 1N4004 100u C1 IN X1 LM7805 ADJ OUT 0.1u C2
