You are on shift at Wings, a residential youth service for homeless youth. Imogen (14) entered into your service for support several weeks ago, this is her story.
Imogen was initially placed straight into residential care with her younger brother Tim (autistic, 2 years younger). This was a controversial decision as neither were placed into foster care before their first residential care placement.
Foster kids are not exposed to the behaviours of residential care kids - foster care is generally regarded as more "normalised". Imogen and Tim were placed together as they did not seem to have a negative influence on each other.
Imogen's mother was 16 when she had her. Imogen's father was not in the picture for the most part. When he was, he would rape Imogen. He had herpes which she contracted and was reminded of the trauma each time she had a herpes breakout.
Presenting situation and behaviours
Imogen is enrolled in school and attends roughly 60% of the time. She smokes but does not present too many challenging behaviours until she starts hanging out with boys. Imogen has recently met Jaden and they have become engaged. Imogen has informed staff she has not disclosed her herpes status to Jaden.
Jaden is 15, in school and lives with his family in a low socio-economic suburb.
