It can be your current employer (or business if you own one), it can be for a local organization you are involved with (for instance, I saw a student do an excellent project for the printing company her organization used that was seeking to grow. That firm is now not only a great place for printing in her town, but since then has grown to a well known publisher of medical and sports texts which are filled with complex images), or it can even be for a volunteer organization (example- how a boy scout or girl scout council will recruit and develop leaders for the troops).

You will need to learn the organization's structure, it's function areas and how those are divided into different positions, turnover rates, projected growth in current and new operations (or functions) in order to make your projections. You will need to research what positions the organization has (or wishes to have) using O*NET and other resources so that you can determine which of these can be filled internally through employee development. You also need to learn about the company's current rates of internal development and promotion, and see if the organization wishes to continue these rates or wish to increase the number of opportunities for advancement for current employees.

I expect there to be tables that show current employment numbers and anticipated future numbers for each of the 3-5 years (predicted growth) as well as the number of annual replacements. I expect to be able to see how the growth and turnover rates are affecting your annual numbers.

You are to devise plans for internal development and advancement to your client's desires, and then provide additional information and recommendations that will help the client in the other positions beyond what they are already doing (thus you must summarize their current recruitment efforts in your report as well). You are expected to justify and provide support for all recommendations.

  • You are to submit a formal report with cover sheet, figures, and references. It should be 8-12 pages in length.
