In a 250-300 word response, critically examine your personal level of intercultural communication competence. Is it important for you to achieve a certain level of intercultural communication competence? Would enhanced intercultural communication competence help you personally? Professionally? Academically? Include examples in your submission and use at least one resource to support your key points.

“An effective communicator tries to maintain pleasant and positive relations with others, even when points of disagreement arise”(Baack, 2012). I think that one technique I can implement to improve my communication is to look at who the receiving party is. Is it someone that is old, or male or female, or a younger person? When you can identity with the person you are trying to communicate with then it can make the communication between the groups a lot more able to receive what you are trying to say. I know for me communication in my house is a huge thing. If you can’t communicate well with your spouse, then how are you able to go to work and be a well communicator? I think that one barrier that we have when communicating can be how someone receives your message. For example, if you send something through email or text, the sender can be saying it one way but the receiver can get the message and decode it a different way. This is where talking to someone over the phone or in person works a lot better when communicating than over a text or email. Another example of a barrier in communications when you have a language barrier. I think this is the biggest one when it comes to communication. This is something that we as a society have to deal with and a way to improve it, as a manager would be to have someone qualified to speak the language that the company deals with. This can reduce the miscommunication. Also it helps to have someone that can help maintain that pleasant and positive relationship in the work place when you have a confident communicator.
