Question:
Your roommate has trouble getting up for his 11am class, so he sets a really loud alarm clock that goes off every morning at 10am. As an early riser, you tend to be up already, listening to your favourite podcast. Since you like routine, you always listen to the same hour-long podcast from 9-10am each morning. When the loud alarm goes off at 10am, you jump. After a time, you notice that you start to tense up every time you approach the end of that podcast.
1.Diagram out the classical conditioning scenario, labeling all the key parts.
2.Consider the unconditioned response, and the conditioned response in this scenario. Discuss how they relate to one another. How might you use opponent-process theory to explain any differences?
3. If your podcast ended at 9:50am each morning, how would that affect the strength of your conditioned response to the podcast? (and what would we call this training procedure?)
