1. Identify specific HR policies and practices in place at Costco,and evaluate their alignment with Costco’s corporate missionstatement. Take a stand for oragainst the strong and distinct HR policies currentlyin place at Costco. Support your decision with atleast three specific Costcopolicies that relate to topics coveredin the Human Resources Management module reading. Forexample, the Costco “Take Care of Our Employees” Mission includes astatement to provide employees with an atmosphere free fromharassment or discrimination. You could describe how thismission relates specifically to the Age Discrimination inEmployment Act of 1967.
2. Write a three-paragraph (minimum)memo addressed to current Costco CEO W. CraigJelinek. Advise him EITHER to continueSinegal’s employee-motivatingstrategies, OR to change them as theCostco investors would advise. You must support your advicewith the three specific policies you identified in the previousstep.Your memo does not need to contain every section, just besure to include the date, recipient, sender, subject, and at leastthree paragraphs addressing your argument about Costco’s HRpolicies and practices. Be sure to address the CEO properly,and write to him as a concerned executive.In addition to the text,you are encouraged to research Costco, its employee programs andpolicies, and other related HR policies and practices usingreliable and properly cited Internet resources. You may also drawfrom your personal work experience with appropriate examples tosupport your references.
