Question:
A boiler is fed with 40 kg/s of water at a pressure of 100 bar and a temperature of 250°C. The velocity of the water at the inlet is negligible. The boiler delivers superheated steam with a pressure of 90 bar and a temperature of 800 K through a 20 cm diameter pipe. Calculate the average velocity of the steam at the exit of the boiler and the energy transfer as heat to the water required to obtain the specified steam conditions. Use the tables in Appendix A.3 for data.
