A researcher obtained a sample of 123 American women who said they wanted to lose weight. She weighed each of them and found M = 178 pounds. The mean weight for women  in the United States is 164 pounds and the  population standard deviation is known. The  researcher used a single-sample z test and  found z (N = 123) = 3.68, p < .05.
