I have substantial experience in teaching math concepts that range from basic math concepts up through AP Calculus 1 and 2. I understand the importance of relating the math concepts to real-world applications so that students have a solid understanding of why and what is being asked of them. Being a math teacher at an online high school has shaped my communication skills so that I have a thorough understanding of student learning styles. My experience at UNHS has allowed me the opportunity to work with students from all 50 states and over 101 countries worldwide. I empathize to my students that math is about scaffolding their learning experiences in order to make the crucial connections within the content material. Knowing and applying math vocabulary is just as important is math computation skills. Math is not about memorizing facts for a test and moving on, it's about competency-based learning where students should master the skills and concepts in order to develop that life long connection to math skills.
