A study done by Jung et al. (2014) looked at hurricane names and their perceived threat. They thought that if hurricanes in the United States had male names they would be perceived as more dangerous. In one part of the research the subjects were given a weather map showing a hurricane moving toward the area where they lived. Half the 142 subjects saw the map with the hurricane named Christina and half the subjects saw the map with the hurricane named Christopher. They were then asked to rate how likely they would evacuate, with 1 being definitely evacuate immediately and 7 being definitely not evacuate. The results are shown in the following boxplots.
