A Model of Stressors, Stress and Outcomes

The model shown in Exhibit 9.2 is designed to help illustrate the link among organizational stressors, stress, and outcomes. Recall from our earlier definition that stress is a response to an action, situation, or event that places special demands on an individual. These occurrences are represented in Exhibit 9.2 as stressors, divided into four main categories: individual, group, organizational, and nonwork or extra organizational. The first three stressor categories are work-related. The experience of work-related and extra organizational stress produces outcomes: behavioral, cognitive, and physiological.
