In my experience working in a managerial position I have actually had the pleasure of being looked up to and used that as a way to turn it into team work. I've always been the type of person that works well with a team; therefore I apply my position of taking charge and transforming that into collaborating with my team so that we all get the same recognition in completing tasks together.
"Affirming shared values" to me means that I have certain standards, I've learned or been pre-exposed to, that I follow and use on a daily basis. I share these values with my team of coworkers by explaining to them my thoughts instead of imposing them to believe the same as me. If we all share similar values we are able to function as a unit and complete tasks together, to bring growth to our company. I find that people who collaborate effectively within certain values, helps bring up the morale and get more accomplished. In my current job that means that the more children we place the more children we are able to take in our orphanages and help get them into loving family homes. If we don't place children within certain time, it only means that other orphan children don't have the chance to come into the orphanage and be placed.
"Teaching others to model the way" to me goes hand in hand with being a trusting example that others can follow. I am responsible not only to teach others to model a certain way, but also, I must be able to follow that myself. What good does it do, if I teach something I cannot follow? Recipe for hypocritical disaster It is always an easy task to speak at someone and command them what to do; however, speaking to someone, and leading by self example is admiring and it shows credibility and trust. In my current work position I answer to my boss and owner of the company. He has created an open door environment and makes every single one of us feel as if we are on the same level as him. Even tho he has an MD and PhD in clinical psychology and opened this Adoption Agency from the ground up, he makes all of us feel as if were on the same exact platform. We are his equal and he treats everyone the same way. Our agency has been a team from day one and we have been successful in placing many children in loving home because of the way we work as a team. No one person gets more recognition than the other.
