At first glance, Net neutrality may not seem to affect Cloud Services. (If you are unaware of what net neutrality is, please do some research) When you own your data center, you basically control your services and bandwidth. When you are in the cloud, you depend on the service provider to ensure you have good quality service. A service agreement usually provides this quality with your company and the service provider. One big service that is being provided by the cloud is video storage. I.e., movies and video content. Now imagine that you own Cloud Storage R Us. Netflix is your biggest customer and makes you millions of dollars a year. A new service is up and coming and hosted at Cloud Storage R Us. Because of the contracts' structure, you have promised Netflix a great service and the majority of your bandwidth. (They are your best customer!) But this new service, Tic Toc, is really starting to cut into your total bandwidth and capacity. Is it OK that you start to restrict Tic Toc users so that the Netflix service does not suffer? Tic Toc is a foreign-owned company, so does that matter? Now instead of Cloud Storage R Us imagine the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud service and the two competing services are Amazon Video services and Netflix? Should some laws force AWS to treat everyone equally? How do they police their capacity if so? (An error or hack at Netflix shutting down Amazon video) What if they show bias toward their own service? Is that anti- competitive? Should it be regulated with laws
