If you are not currently employed, select an organization that you are familiar with. Assignment 2 is worth 60% of your final mark. It is graded out of 60. 1. Briefly describe your organization. Is it public/private? What is its main business/purpose? (you don't need to name the organization if you are concerned about confidentiality) (2 marks) 2. Identify and describe two business metrics that your organization reports (either internally or externally) on a regular basis in some way (annual reports, reports to shareholders, etc.). (1 mark each for identifying two business metrics, 1 mark each for describing the two metrics, for otal of 4 marks) 3. Identify two broad area in which HR can or does make a strategic impact in your organization. Areas might include growth in revenue/profit, service delivery, customer service, product or market development, cost control, innovation, productivity, etc. (2 marks) 4. Select one of the areas you identified in question #3. Briefly describe how you believe HR can or does make an impact in the one area you have selected. (If you do not believe HR makes a strategic impact in your organization, feel free to speculate on how you believe it can make such an impact). (2 marks) 5. Identify and describe two specific HR initiatives/programs/processes that are in place or needed to make an impact in this area.
